I don’t really like our local (Singapore) TV productions. Okay, Channel News Asia and Arts Central ain’t that bad. But the rest of the channels: 5, 8, U, just can’t seem to make the mark. Poor production quality, cheesy story, bad taste of humor etc. Ok, I’m not trying to sound “high class” or what, but that’s the truth.
For example, I could never appreciate Taiwanese or Korean dramas filled with the teen idols. Locally produced game shows make no sense to me. If you realised, the currently top-rated shows on local TV so far are either franchises from overseas TV stations - Deal or No Deal, Who wants to be a Millionaire, or spin-offs - Channel U’s SuperStar series (American Idol). Perhaps the main contributing factor is that we only have one and the only broadcaster: Mediacorp. No competition is bad (most of the time at least).
So I don’t watch TV? Of course I do! These are some of the (quality) TV series/programmes I’m currently watching and I would like to share them with you:
Show info: 24 is an Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning American television series created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran, and produced by Imagine Television. Broadcast by Fox Network in the USA
Plot outline: Federal Agent Jack Bauer can’t afford to always play by the rules. As a member of the L.A. Counter
My all-time favourite TV series. The male lead: Kiefer Sutherland is just born for his character: Jack Bauer. It’s like watching a 24 hour action packed movie! Riveting plot, mind-boggling twists, special forces raid missions, cool weapons, gadgets and technology! This show is an extremely huge hit in Japan. Season 6 (Day 6) just ended, And I just can’t wait for Day 7 to start!
Show info: Hell’s Kitchen is the name of a cooking-based reality show. It is based on the original Hell’s Kitchen, broadcast in the UK on ITV and the USA on Fox Network, featuring chef Gordon Ramsay.
Apprentice in the kitchen. Gordon Ramsay is the man. Uses the F-word like it’s grammatical standard. Whether you are a woman, a man or a sissy, he’ll yell at you like there’s no tomorrow. Dramatic and heart-warming at times.
Show info:Prison Break is an American serial drama television series that premiered on the Fox Network on August 29, 2005. The story revolves around a man who was sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit, and his brother’s elaborate plan to help him escape his death sentence. Created by Paul Scheuring, the show is produced by Adelstein-Parouse Productions in association with Original Television and 20th Century Fox Television.
Prison Break needs no further introduction. Definitely one of the best TV series around. Currently showing on Channel 5.

It was created, in part, by Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy. American Dad! follows the events of Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) agent Stan Smith and his family.
Show info: The Late Show with David Letterman is a multiple Emmy Award-winning hour-long weeknight comedy talk show broadcast by CBS from the Ed Sullivan Theater on Broadway in New York City. The show debuted on August 30, 1993. It is hosted by David Letterman.
I’ve been following this late night talk show since I was 13. Loved the American jokes, the Top Ten list, the funny interviews and their regular sketches. They used to show this on Channel 5 (a long time ago).
Show info:American television comedy drama series created for the USA Network.
The title refers to the burn notices issued by intelligence agencies to discredit or announce the dismissal of agents or sources who are considered to have become liabilities rather than assets. The television series is a first-person narrative (including frequent stream-of-consciousness voice-overs providing nuggets of esoteric exposition) from the viewpoint of covert-operations agent Michael Westen, played by Jeffrey Donovan
Burn notice is a new TV series from USA Networks. I like this show because it’s sort of a modern day robin hood. It’s like James Bond 007, but in a more light-hearted and comedic way. It combines various action and thriller elements with a fresh sense of humour. This show rocks.
Show info: Army Wives is a US television drama series about a woman who marries a soldier and moves her family onto a US Army post, where she becomes friends with other women and men whose spouses are in the Army. The series premiered on Lifetime Television
This show is all about love, friendship and sacrifice. Good show.

The programme is estimated to have over 350 million viewers worldwide,[citation needed] up to 8 million of whom watch the programme each week in the UK on BBC Two. Top Gear is presented by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May and The Stig, an anonymous test driver.
Best motor show on earth. World class cinematography, hilarious hosts, gorgeous cars. Love the bizarre challenges involving cars. Eg: The Reliant Space Shuttle - Built a space shuttle from a car.
Show info: Top Gear presenter James May takes a tour of the 20th century- trying out for himself some of the most surprising and influential technological advances of the past hundred years.
Science show for the masses. Thumbs-up
Show info:American Chopper is a popular series is based around the founder of the company, Paul Teutul, Sr., and his son, Paul Teutul, Jr., also known as Paulie, as the two run a business creating custom motorcycles in their workshop, Orange County Choppers. The workshop is based in Montgomery, New York. One of their most famous bikes is the Black Widow Spider Bike. The contrasting attitudes of the men and their propensity for sulking often lead to fiery but humorous verbal exchanges as they meet unusually short schedule deadlines for building distinct custom choppers.
Show info: Man vs. Wild is a survival television series on the Discovery Channel hosted by Bear Grylls. The series features Grylls purposefully demonstrating extreme methods of survival in harsh conditions. The program has shown him eating raw meat and live fish, staving off hypothermia after intentionally jumping in a frozen lake, and drinking the fluids of elephant feces and his own urine for hydration.
From this show, you will know where’s the best place to have Sashimi - Straight from the river.
Show info: Future Weapons is a television program series first shown on April 19, 2006 on Discovery Channel. Host Richard Machowicz, a former Navy SEAL, reviews new and future war technologies and demonstrates their deadly potential and the science behind them.
