Behind a Steve Jobs Keynote

If the chief executive of Cadbury-Schweppes speaks at a conference, or Nike’s boss introduces a new kind of trainer, you might expect to see it covered in specialist magazines, then quickly forgotten. But on Tuesday a chief executive will stand up and announce something, and within minutes it will be scrutinised across the web and on stockbrokers’ computers. It will be in newspapers. They’ll talk about it for months.

That chief executive is Steve Jobs.

My team picked the best and confidently presented them to Steve. True to his reputation as a perfectionist, he hated most of them.

another sets up and calibrates the state-of-the-art projection systems (complete with redundant backup systems), and a huge remote video truck parked outside has its own crew handling video feeds for the webcasts and playback of any video needed during the show. Then there are the people who set up all the computers used in the keynote, each with at least one backup that can be instantly brought online with the flick of a switch.

About a minute into the demo, Steve stopped me, saying impatiently, “you gotta get this together or we’re going to have to pull this demo from the keynote.”

Beer

SAN FRANCISCO - One of the main ingredients in beer appears to thwart prostate cancer, according to findings released on Monday by researchers at a university in the US state of Oregon.

However, a person would have to quaff more than 17 pints to imbibe a medically effective dose of xanthohumol, the evident cancer-fighting chemical found in hops, according to researcher Emily Ho.

“From my studies, you would have to drink an awful lot of beer to get the amount that I saw,” Ho told AFP.

Tip: Go Straight Home After Gym

Posted on June 12th, 2006 in Daily | 3 Comments »

Met up with Seb for our gym session again. Good workout. After a power lunch at Subway, we wanted to head home, but with all my wisdom, I decided that we should go take a walk at the malls. Long story short: Seb bought a pair of pants and a pair of Croc slippers (My next target on my purchase list). As for me, I got myself a new wallet! Like it the moment I saw it. One item off my wish list.

Lesson learnt: Go Home after gym to prevent spending more money.

Happy Day

Posted on June 9th, 2006 in Daily | 2 Comments »

After 2 bad weeks, today was a particularly happy day for me.. At least I felt some kind of relief. I met up with my buddies at Wisma. After lunch we headed to Indochine for our mission.

We ordered some drinks (I had Bailey’s Milkshake) and made ourselves comfortable while orienting ourselves to the place. What we did there besides drinking and eating… I cannot say! TOP SECRET. Anyway, I must say the service level of Indochine (to my surprise) was quite bad. And they are in bad need of replacements for the menus and the coasters. After 1 hour, our we completed our mission (sort of).

Then we continue our shopping trip, yes 3 big guys going shopping together, how gay can that get! From Orchard we roamed to City Hall, Peninsula. Got a pair of myself a pair of Hawaianas slippers. Next stop was the Joga Bonito store just outside Raffles City. Found one shirt that I liked, but no suitable size. Inside Raffles city. there is a Lego expo going on, showcasing Lego mock-ups of everything related to soccer. The centerpiece is a scale model of a stadium, complete with spectators and support facilities!

Next, GNC. After some read-up from Men’s Health, Seb and I finally bought our very first supplement - Creatine. I don’t usually believe in those stuffs. But I’ve realised I’ve reached a plateau and needed something to get me out of there, same goes to Seb. And so, we ( I ) signed up as a GNC member, bought 2 tubs at 35% discount!

Though I didn’t really bought a lot of things, I’m very happy with my purchases today! Finally understood the power of retail-therapy. Plus nothing beats hanging out with my buddies! HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Mambo Jambo Master

Posted on June 6th, 2006 in Daily, Video | 5 Comments »

zouklogo.jpgThis dude apparently is a frequent visitor of Zouk’s Mambo Nite. He calls himself Mamboban. Check out his moves, which are perfectly synchronized with the lyrics of Bananarama’s Love In The First Degree, complete with a Darth Vader style self-introduction. It’s a good video for newbies to Mambo. Lastly.. What can I say… He’s currently on-top of my DA DUDE list. Enjoy the vid.

Update: Changed the video stream from Youtube to Google video. It’s now more in sync with the music.
